1. ANIMAL DIROAMAS: Please send in a shoe box or similar sized box by March 11th for students to begin working on their dioramas to accompany their animal research papers. Also, for the animal  that goes inside the diorama that your child has chosen, there are a few options 1. purchase a small animal figurine on amazon or at the Denver Zoo or 2. student can make the animal out of paper in the classroom. Let me know if you are having trouble finding your child's animal. I have some available for kiddos to borrow. I will arrange to have all of the other materials needed but by all means, if there is something else your child wants to bring for their diorama, please do so. thanks for your help with this!

2. The 1st Grade Performance will be on March
24th at 6 p.m. in the cafetorium. Students are working diligently in the classroom and in all specials to create an amazing performance! In the classroom we are ding the research, reports and dioramas. In Art they are making animal masks, in Technology students are doing research, in Music students are learning the songs, and in Gym and Drama students are working on animal movements. I'm excited to see how it all comes together!!

3. Read Across America Day is this Wednesday March 2nd. This is a day to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. We will be doing Math activities that day that correlate with Dr. Seuss, as well as, during Science reading "Bartholomew and the Oobleck".

Celebrating the 100th day by making 100 marshmallow structures:) Our Kindergarten Math buddies helped out!

Sharing 100 Day Collections! They were awesome!

Hello Everyone! I can't believe that March is almost here! Hope everyone has been able to enjoy the fantastic weather! Our first field trip went very well and the kiddos were very respectful and had a great time! I included some pictures below from our adventure:)

Our 100th day was a wonderful celebration od being 100 days smarter! The students made structures using 100 marshmallows, worked with a partner to decode a 100 day hidden picture by solving +10 and -10 problems, and shared their 100 day collections. Thank you for helping your kiddo to complete this project. They were a hit! The clues were very exciting for the students to figure out what was in the bottle. They liked it when they could "stump" the class:)

Here is everything you need to know for the upcoming week....

Specials:
Monday: B Day (Technology)
Tuesday: C Day (Drama)
Wednesday: D Day (Gym)
Thursday: E Day (Music)
Friday: A Day (Art)

1. NO SCHOOL on February 29th (Assessment Day for teachers)

2. WCE Auction: Our school auction will be on Saturday March 5th at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Denver Post Building. More information on the school website http://westerlycreek.dpsk12.org/. Thank you to everyone who has donated items for the 1st Grade Lego basket. What an amazing basket this is going to be! I will be there and hope to see you all there, as well!!

3. 1st Grade Performance: The date has been changed from March 17th to MARCH 24th at 6 p.m. There will also be a show during the day at 10 p.m. for the school kiddos:) Students will be sharing their animal research projects with family members before and after the show in the classroom. They have been researching, researching and researching. They will begin to put it all together for a research paper, poster and diorama. IF YOU HAVE ANY SHOE BOXES FOR YOUR CHILD TO USE FOR THEIR DIORAMA, PLEASE HOLD ONTO THEM! I will send out an email in a few weeks for them to bring one to school for their diorama:)

4. Animal Research Project: We are doing research at school but if your kiddo has time to go on the internet (with a parent's help) and print out any information on their animal, that would be great!

5. Math: We are continuing to work on adding and subtracting double digit numbers using the what we know about the ones and tens place (i.e. For 62-40 I know that 6 groups of ten minus 4 groups of ten is 2 groups of ten and that 2 ones minus 0 ones is 2 ones. Therefore, I have 24). Below are some photos of student work! Also, I will begin to send home Math activity bags home with kiddos this week. This by NO means that your child is below in Math, it's always beneficial to practice these Math activities at home to reinforce what they did during the day. The Math homework is an 'overall" review and the activities are a fun way for your child to show you what they learned during he day. In fact, if they can explain to you how to do the activity, then they have learned the material:)

6. Social Studies: We will be continuing to do animal research on the following: habitat, diet, prey, predators, and taking care of their babies.

I will let you all know if there is anything else that comes up that you need to know! Thank you for all of your support at home and have a great week:)
