1. Before I forget, there were a pair of black sunglasses left in the room after the 1st grade performance. If they are yours, email me and I will send them home with your child.:)

2. Math: We are now in our telling time unit. 1st graders are required to master telling time to the hour and half hour. We reviewed the parts of the clock this week to ensure that students knew the difference between the minute hand and hour hand. I used the following strategy (from my days in 1st grade) to help them remember which hand is which; the word "hour" is shorter so the hour hand is the short hand, the word "minute" is longer so the longer hand is the minute hand. Easy peezy! :) For kiddos that are ready, we will move onto quarter-after and quarter-before.

3. Science: We have begun our Lifecycles unit. We have a tadpole and caterpillars in our classroom that students will observe for the next couple of weeks. Students will be keeping an observation journal to track the changes during the different stages of the lifecycles.

4. Mother's Day Tea: We will be having our annual Mother's Day Tea on Friday May 6th at 2:45 p.m. in the classroom. Students will be working on some special surprises for the mothers:) Hope you can make it! More details to come!

5. Monday, April 18th we will be going to the zoo for our field trip. Keeping my fingers crossed for warm weather! We will be leaving school promptly at 9:15. Please send a lunch in a disposable bag and apply sunscreen (if needed) to your kiddo. I will be sending an email to the following parents whom have volunteered to chaperone...Doug S., Heather S., Lynn M., Sunny D., Nicole D., and Lindsey S. If you are able to chaperone PLEASE email me. Thanks!
