1. 1ST GRADE PERFORMANCE CHANGE: Due to PARCC testing, the daytime only 1st grade performance has been changed to Friday, March 18th at 10:00 in the cafeteria. The nighttime performance will remain the same: Thursday, March 17th at 6:00 p.m.

2. Library books: We have a scheduled library time now. We go to the library every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. Students can check books out and bring them home. They are required to bring the book back the following week in order to check out another book the following week.

3. Field Trip money: Thank you to everyone who has sent in field trip money! If you have not sent it in yet, please send $25 with your child on Monday. This money covers all 3 field trips for the school year. Our first field trip will be February 10th to the Arvada Center for the Performing Arts to see a play "Junie B. Jones" and do an art activity. We will be leaving school at 9 and returning at 1:45. I will send more details as it gets closer:)

4. Valentine's Party: Our party will be Friday, February 12th at 2:45 in the classroom. Please send your kiddo with Valentine's to pass out. I do not have them put student's names on them. It takes a VERY long time to pass them out. Without names, it goes much faster. Thank you!

5. 100th Day of School: Our 100th day of school actually falls on the same day as the Valentine's party (go figure). Therefore, we will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Friday, February 19th. In next week's Thursday folder will be a project for kiddos to complete at home centered around a "100 Day collection" to share during Math.

6. Animal Research Projects: Starting next week, students will begin researching an animals for a research paper to be completed during Writer's Workshop. The research will be done during Social Studies, as well as, a poster or diorama. Students will choose an animal that they have some knowledge of but want to learn more about. These animal research papers and projects will be displayed in the classroom for parents to view the night of the 1st grade performance on March 17th. They will be amazing!

7. Social Studies: This past week we discussed a few black leaders for Black History month. We learned about Ruby Bridges, Rosa Parks and George Washington Carver. Hopefully your child shared some facts about these amazing leaders with you:) On Monday, each table group will be planting a sweet potato plant to celebrate the work of botanist George Washington Carver. They will be measuring the plant/vine that grows over the next month. Last year the tallest plant/vine was over 4 feet tall!

8. Upcoming important days to remember:
February 15th: NO SCHOOL President's Day
February 29th: NO SCHOOL Assessment Day

I believe that's all for now! If anything else comes up, I will let you know! Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Bryan-Doherty
