Check this out!

We have access to a website this year called "Frontrow". It is a website that offers Math practice for students to use at school and at home. We will be gin having students use it on a daily basis with iPads in the classroom on Tuesday. Please check it out at https://student.frontrowed.com/#login
All you need is your child's first and last name and the class code (ekdekg).
We will be using this website for Math homework, as well. I will be receiving a weekly report showing the amount of times students are accessing the website. Please let me know if you have any problem logging on. Thank you!

Introducing:

I will have a student teacher for the remainder of the school year. Her name is Aliya Hanna. The kiddos are calling her Ms. Hanna:) Ms. hanna is a student at the University of Denver and is originally from Chicago. She will be a part of our classroom community for the whole school year and will be beginning to teach lessons here and there. It is wonderful to have her be a part of our daily experiences and to share her knowledge, as well as, have another person in the classroom to assist students. :)

What's going on in Math this week?

We will be working on understanding the meaning of the equal sign by pairing equivalent expressions and constructing true sentences.
Example: 6+2=4+4

We will also be working on understanding the commutative property and recognizing statements as "true" or "false". Example: 6+2 is the same as 2+6

What's going on in Reader's and Writer's Workshop this week?

This week we will continue to look at story elements (setting, characters, character traits, problem, solution).  Students will be transferring their learning of these elements into their own personal narratives. We will especially be looking at developing the characters in their personal narratives to express how they think and feel.

Special Delivery:

On Monday the DPS Science guy will be delivering our animals for our Science unit. We will have goldfish tanks on each table group, ant farms, and pill bug farms. It's a really fun unit and a chance for the students to work together to keep their goldfish alive:)
